College FacilitiesThere are a number of facilities which are designed to improve the Burgmann College experience. Each of these facilities are designed for the use of all Burgmann residents equally. Almost all facilities are located on the ground level which provides wheelchair and other disabled access. Computer Room | Burgmann College has a number of computers, all accessible 24 hours a day with a high-speed internet connection. A combination of both PC and Apple desktop computers caters to people familiar with either computer system. There are two laser printers in the computer lab for printing. Because these computer systems are managed by the ANU, any printing done in the lab uses the ANU student quota. All paper and toner (ink) is supplied free of charge as long as the quota is not exceeded. For all the terms and conditions relating to using the computer lab, please see: http://infocommons.anu.edu.au/pages/Home For more information about the computer lab and other network access, please see our IT Facilities page. |
BarAlso named “Le Chat Noir” (or The Black Cat), the College bar is a major social hub. The bar is open for formal events and often open between 8.30pm - 10.30pm. A wide variety of drinks, snacks and and other foodstuffs are available at reasonable or discounted prices. The bar is staffed by Burgmann residents, and offers employment opportunities to successful applicants. Applicants must have the “Responsible Service of Alcohol” (or RSA) qualification. This qualification is required by law, and is attained by attending an RSA course. Common RoomAdjacent to the the Burgmann bar, the Common Room is used for casual social and study gatherings, formal events, group meetings, table tennis, and watching TV. The Common Room is equipped with two televisions, lounge suites, a stage, and numerous chairs. The main TV area, located at the far end of the Common Room, contains Burgmann's main TV area. Connected to a VHS recorder, DVD player, Austar (pay TV), as well as the usual free-to-air TV channels gives residents access to a wide variety of TV programs. After most formal dinners, the Common Room is set up with a dance floor and DJ equipment so residents can relax and dance the night away. The point is to have fun, so if you have requests for favourite songs to be played, please don't hesitate to ask the DJ. GP Room | The Grenfell-Price (or “GP Room”) is used mainly for smaller functions, meetings and the Art Show. Because it is smaller than the Dining Hall and Common Room, it is used for the most formal events involving both staff and students
Dining Hall | The Dining Hall is where most Undergraduate residents eat their meals. As such it forms the most regular gathering of residents in the College. This provides the greatest opportunity to socialise and chat with a wide variety of people. Open from 7.00 am - 10.30pm, the dining hall provides access to fruit, tea, coffee, Milo and hot chocolate throughout this time. The Dining Hall also has a piano. The residents are free to play as long as the Dining Hall is open. During mealtimes, a selection of hot and cold food is available. Special dietry requirements such as vegetarian options are provided to residents who have informed the college about their needs. |
Meal times for undergraduate residents are: | Breakfast | 7.00 am - 9.30 pm (Weekdays); 7.00 am - 10.30 am (Weekends) |

| Lunch | 12.30 pm - 1.30pm (Everyday) |

For students who cannot attend lunch, a packed lunch can be ordered. This must be done the night before and picked up at breakfast at the servery. Alternatively, if you cannot make it to dinner, you can request a late dinner. Late dinners are placed in the refrigeratorin the Dining Hall. A microwave is provided for re-heating purposes. Most formal dinners are located in the dining hall, ranging in themes, menus, and events. Residents are kept informed of upcoming events. Chapel/Café (Chafé) | Our Chafé is the newest building in the new Postgrad area. It houses a multi-faith chapel, and is the site of Burgmann Sunday Service. The café section provides café style chairs and tables, as well as numerous lounges for study and social events. Between the chapel and café sections is a modern kitchen with oven, stove top, and refridgerator for resident's use. The Chafé also has a wheel-chair accessible toilet. |
Snooker RoomBurgmann prides itself on its Snooker table. The classic style table is free to use, although often used. The snooker room is opened between 9.00 am - 10.00 am daily, and locked at 11.00 pm. The table has both Snooker and Pool balls so people can play either, or both games. (Not usually simultaneously) One of the traditional Burgmann formal events is based on the Burgmann Snooker competition. The competition is played for weeks, eliminating people until the final match between the last two players can be played. The competition is called “Dawborn”, and the final match is preceeded by a formal dinner and drinks. During the match people socialise and watch the competition being decided. Once it's over, move to the dance floor and bar area for even more socialising. Dark RoomAn interesting and often unknown feature in Burgmann, the College has a dark room for film development. While digital cameras are becoming more common, this room is particularly useful to photography enthusiasts and some arts students. Residents who wish to use this room are encouraged to do so. However, they are required to supply their own developing chemicals. Music RoomResidents who are musically inclined are often discouraged because of noise issues that occur by practicing in residential areas. As such, Burgmann provides a dedicated music room, away from other people's rooms so they can practice without disturbing other people. Bike ShedThe ANU campus is large enough for many students to ride instead of walk to classes. Also, the ACT has specialised bike paths to get to many places around Canberra. Many residents choose to bring a bicycle to Burgmann. The college has a secure area to store your bike. To enter and exit the area, a key is required. Laundry Facilities | The College provides numerous laundries equipped with either a top-loading or front-loading washing machine. The machines do NOT require any coins tokens or other payment. However, residents are required to supply their own washing powder/liquids and fabric softener. Finally, each laundry is also equipped with a drier and a drying room (used for delicate clothing)
