Supporting bright Burgmann futures

“I think a lot about how much my life has changed from cleaning hotel rooms with my mum to studying science at a wonderful university... College is such a special and privileged experience and I think that it should be something that is accessible to any student.”

Alumna, Sai Campbell, 2023 Rhodes Scholar, Bursary & Scholarship Recipient (2019 – 2022).

2023 Bursary Appeal: Removing Barriers for Access

With the rising cost of living, there has never been a harder time in Burgmann’s history for diverse and low-SES students to access higher education.  Moving for university is unattainable for many low-SES students, particularly those from regional backgrounds, due to the associated and ongoing costs.

To combat this challenge and create a truly inclusive and equitable community, we need your help.

We believe that students from all backgrounds should have equal access to education and opportunity. This is a value that Burgmann College holds dear and has been a part of our foundation since we were established in 1971.

Our mission is to foster a community that is representative of the diversity of our nation and inclusive of people from all over the world. For the past 52 years, Burgmann College has been a home-away-from-home for undergraduate and postgraduate residents, where they are supported in both their academic and personal lives while undertaking the financial and social challenge of moving for university.

Sai's Story

Sai Campbell has always been destined for great things. However, without the financial support from bursaries and scholarships, she would not have had the means to pursue her dream of higher education. With the help of a Burgmann scholarship, Sai was able to complete her Bachelor of Philosophy (Science) with First Class Honours in 2022. She received the prestigious Tillyard Prize and was recently awarded a Rhodes Scholarship, which she intends to use to study infectious disease epidemiology, inequalities in pandemics and the response to health emergencies.
These are remarkable achievements that reflect the talent and drive of an exceptional young woman.

Sai is a brilliant example of what is possible when deserving students are given the financial support they need to reach their full potential. Her story sends an important message to other young people out there: if they have the talent and determination to succeed, and the financial barriers are removed, there is nothing holding them back.

2023 Bursary Appeal: Removing Barriers for Access

Burgmann College is well placed to support students from diverse backgrounds alongside their studies.  Living on campus, in a supportive and encouraging environment, provides the necessary ingredients for our residents to thrive. We believe that all students are deserving of this opportunity to become their best selves. Accessibility, inclusivity, and diversity are values central to the College’s identity, and we must now work hard to ensure these are maintained for future generations.

Our annual appeal is focused on increasing our Bursary Fund so that we can offer more generous bursaries and remove the financial barriers for access, so that people from all backgrounds can be a part of our supportive community while they study at ANU.

We Need Your Help

Our Bursary Fund is an important part of our commitment to accessibility, inclusivity, and diversity. However, the existing fund is not sufficient to meet the rising costs of education and living for future bursary applicants. We need your support to increase our Bursary Fund so that we can help more students to reach their full potential.

Your donation can change the life of a resident, allowing them to access education and opportunity that might otherwise be out of reach.

Every dollar counts, and we know that our community has always been generous and supportive. Your donations will make a tangible difference in the lives of our residents, allowing them to focus on their education and future goals without the added burden of financial stress.

By donating to our Bursary Fund, you are investing in the future of our community and the next generation of leaders. You are helping us ensure that all deserving applicants take up their rightful place in our community.

Every gift of $2 or more is tax deductible within Australia.

Importantly, 100% of your gift will go directly to our Bursary Fund.

Thank you for considering a donation to Burgmann College. With your support, no matter how big or small, together we can make a real difference in the lives of deserving residents. We can’t do it without you.
