Supporting bright Burgmann futures

Since 1971, Burgmann’s founding values of respect, egalitarianism and inclusivity have sustained a deep appreciation for diversity in our community, fostering a culture of care, support, and contribution.

We know it is the diversity of our community that provides the depth and range of cultures, perspectives and experiences that enrich this transformative period of residents’ lives. And I am sure you will agree that the endowment of our bursary program is vital to increasing diversity by removing the financial barriers to joining the Burgmann community.

The importance of our bursary program was never more apparent than when residents and their families experienced the financial pressures of recent pandemic lockdowns. Fortunately, with support from generous donations, we were able to draw more heavily upon our Bursary Fund to support numerous residents alongside the pandemic.

"A needs-based bursary or scholarship never goes to waste and has such an immense impact on young people. It is an affirmation of our value as a person and tells us that someone believes in us and our potential to contribute to the university and beyond."        ~  Sai Campbell, Bursary & Scholarship Recipient and Alumna (2019 – 2022)

Many of our past bursary recipients tell us that it was the support of a Burgmann bursary that enabled them to take up their offer of a place at ANU, and that the support from the Burgmann community ultimately changed their lives.

Unfortunately, the scale of our Bursary Program means that only a limited pool of funds is available for disbursement each year. These funds often need to be distributed between multiple applicants who have a great need and who are deserving of more substantial financial support alongside their studies.

Given the cost of a university education for today’s students, what we need now is to offer more substantial and a higher number of bursaries each year to help with the rising costs of education and living. It is time to grow our bursary fund so we can provide more generous support to the next generation of young people in need. We want to ensure that all deserving applicants can take up their rightful place in our community.

But to do so, we need your help.

Make a gift to the bursary appeal and leave your own legacy to future Burgmann residents

Every gift of $2 or more is tax deductible within Australia.

Every contribution, big or small, will make a difference.

Thank you so much for your support!

Join in the celebrations

We hope you can join us for our 50th Anniversary Back to Burg Alumni and Friends Weekend from 19 to 21 August 2022.

Can you help us find our lost alumni? Please help us reconnect with these former residents so we can keep them updated about College news and invite them to our 50th anniversary festivities.
