That’s a wrap! Burg Sports Update for Semester 1

A Semester 1 update by Sports Reps Darcy Webster-Jones, Indi Ryan, Molly White and John Mordes

Sport at Burgmann this year has got off to a strong start, with great participation and our many athletes displaying their superb skills in a range of sports. So far in the ISO (Interhall Sports) competition, Burgmann has competed in disc, touch football, badminton, road relay, lawn bowls, basketball, hockey, rugby 7s and AFL 9s. Some notable results from these competitions have been a second-place finish in lawn bowls, a nail-biting womens* basketball semi-final, and our first grand final of the year in mens* hockey.

Additionally, ISO and Burgmann have run several sports events in conjunction with the ISO calendar. In O-week, we ran a casual sports mixer with Johns where we played disc and cricket games on South. This had a large turnout from both colleges. ISO also organised a basketball all-stars game featuring ANUs best and brightest ballers to raise money for OzHarvest, which was a great success.

Last but not least, Inward Bound (IB) has kicked off its training schedule for the year. The IB coaches have done a fantastic job in facilitating trainings and planning and completing the first IB mock drop of the year at the end of Term 2. IB will continue to ramp up these sessions next term in the lead up to the main event—so watch this space!

*After discussions with our GSEAs, Sports Reps and Cultural Change, we are changing from male-identifying and non-male identifying to Mens* and Womens*.
Mens* refers to mens, masc-aligned and non-binary
Womens* refers to women, femme-aligned and non-binary
