
Gender-based Violence at College
Burgmann College is committed to providing a safe, respectful, and inclusive residential community where all members can live, learn, and belong free from violence, harassment, discrimination, and harm.
Gender-Based Violence (GBV) is a serious issue across Australian universities and residential communities. Preventing and responding to GBV is a shared responsibility, and Burgmann takes a whole-of-organisation approach that integrates policy, education, culture, leadership, and accountability.

At Burgmann College, our community is our greatest strength, defined by the genuine care residents and staff show one another every day. We also recognise, through national research and the experiences of our own residents, that Gender-Based Violence continues to affect university communities, including residential colleges. In line with the National Higher Education Code to Prevent and Respond to Gender-Based Violence, Burgmann worked with residents, staff, and the Board to develop a whole-of-organisation approach that embeds prevention, support, and accountability across governance, policy, education, leadership, and daily community life, ensuring shared responsibility for a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment.

Over the course of 2025 we refined and redeveloped some of our key policies to place an emphasis on preventing and responding to Gender-based Violence.
Public/Third Party Gender-based Violence Disclosure Tool
In line with legislative requirements this page provides a way for members of the public to disclose an instance of Gender-Based Violence connected to a resident or staff member Burgmann College. Disclosures can be made by those directly affected or by third parties raising a concern. These can be done anonymously, All disclosures are handled with care, confidentiality, and in line with Burgmann’s policies and the National Higher Education Code.
