Academic

A fundamental purpose of College life is to help students succeed in their academic endevours and to provide a secure environment in which to study and work.

The College has a number of senior staff living onsite including the Principal, Deputy Principal, College Dean and Residential Fellows who provide academic support to residents and enrich the community by sharing their professional and academic expertise.

Burgmann Academic Network Coordinators (BANCs)

At Burgmann College, residents’ benefit from being a part of the Burgmann Academic Network. At Burgmann shared learning, both giving and receiving, is paramount, and the College places an expectation on all residents to contribute to the academic support and wellbeing of others through networking, peer assistance and co-operative group study.

Each year, the College appoints Burgmann Academic Network Coordinators (BANCs) who are typically later-year, high achieving residents that represent one of the seven Academic Colleges of the Australian National University. Under the guidance of the Deputy Principal, the Academic Network Coordinators support students studying their specific disciplines as well as those who are interested in related topical issues.

Academic Network Coordinators support residents with their studies in a number of different ways, this often includes organising tutorials, hosting panel discussions with industry experts, promoting relevant events run by the ANU and wider Canberra community, and supporting residents with general academic skills to help them navigate their courses.
