The place to be - and the place to become
As Burgmann College marks its 55th Anniversary, we are inviting the community that built this place to help shape its next chapter.
For 55 years, Burgmann has been known as ‘the place to be’ at ANU. Around the time of our 50th anniversary, a new idea began to take hold: that Burgmann is also the place to become — where residents don’t just live, but transform. Where they discover their strengths, build their confidence, and emerge ready to lead and to make their most valuable contribution to the world.
That tradition has always been made possible by the generosity of our community. From our earliest days in the 1970s, alumni, families and friends have given to ensure Burgmann remains a genuine community — not just a place to sleep and study, but a home where lifelong friendships are forged and futures are shaped.
A College set to thrive
Our new strategic plan is taking shape around four themes:
- Transforming the resident experience
- Strengthening belonging
- Developing our infrastructure and financial foundations
- Engaging our wider community — including you
We are investing in gold-standard programs across academic support, careers and employability, leadership, and wellbeing — and renewing our communal spaces so they match the quality of the community that fills them.
"At Burgmann, we all come from such different places, different values and different stories. In the scheme of all that, it's a beautiful thing that we all come here and find the things that make us all common."
Euan Maclean | Burgmann Residents Association President
