2026 Welcome to Country

The first few weeks of the year at Burgmann College are incredibly special. They are filled with new beginnings, blossoming friendships and nervous excitement. As first‑year students begin to call Burgmann home, they are welcomed through a range of community events including a particularly meaningful Welcome to Country. In 2026, new residents were formally welcomed onto Country by Ngambri-Kamberri Elder Dr Aunty Matilda House-Williams OAM and her son, Paul Girrawah House. Aunty Matilda and Paul were introduced by Director of Advancement Amelia Zaraftis, and newly appointed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Advocate, Noah Smith, contributed to the ceremony.

We hope you enjoy the beautiful photos from this special event.
