3 Big Night Out

Burg Sports & Arts Update | Semester 1, 2022

Sports at Burg

After two years of interruptions (thanks to COVID), this is the first year since 2019 that Burgmann has had a full year of Interhall Sports (ISO); many of our 3rd years are playing Sports for the first time since starting at Burg.

Strong performances across all the Term 1 Sports has seen Burgmann sitting in 2nd place on the ISO ladder. Term 1 is always an interesting start to Interhall Sport at Burg as many first years are trying new sports, such as Ultimate Disc. We have been excited by the significant participation at all the trainings/games across all the year groups.

  • Ultimate Disc - 4th
  • Touch Football - 3rd and 6th
  • Volleyball - 2nd and 3rd
  • Road Relay - 3rd
  • Lawn Bowls - TBD

Term 2 has also been very successful, with strong performances in Hockey, and we are currently in the Prelim Finals for AFL 9s. A few highlights include the Non-Male Identifying Volleyball team making the Grand Final, the AFL 9s team beating Bruce 105–0 and our 3rd place finish in Road Relay.

Arts at Burg: The Story So Far

The BRA Arts team have made a start to 2022. In N-Week, the Arts team welcomed the first years with a barbecue and a viewing of The Hunt for the Wilderpeople on the Back Lawn.

The team of two then expanded to four with the exciting election of Erin Blond and Henry Wise as Whips. Collaboration has been a key feature this year, with a hugely successful Arts x Queer* book club event, and a Poker Night held in conjunction with the Village.

The introduction of the ongoing and much-loved Burgmann Speakeasy represented one of many efforts by the Burgmann leadership to breathe life back into the Common Room following COVID.

And, last but certainly not least: after months of hard work, Burgmann’s band dressed in black and gold to take the number one spot at ANU’s first Big Night Out competition in three years. Over 1,500 people packed into Wamburun Hall for the showstopping affair.

The Arts Team would like to thank the countless people who have—through their positions as directors or informal leaders—made this semester a memorable one for the Arts at Burgmann.
