New catering partner donates $10,000 to The Harriet Nixon Scholarship

Burgmann College is excited to announce our new catering partner, gather by Cater Care. As a gesture of enormous generosity and goodwill to our new partnership, gather has donated $10,000 to The Harriet Nixon Scholarship.

'At gather by Cater Care, we pride ourselves on creating spaces where communities can come together over shared meals and meaningful connections,' said Karen McLaughlin, gather by Cater Care's State Manager for NSW. 'For years, we have supported students across Australia by providing nourishing meals in schools and college boarding houses, creating a home away from home for those pursuing their dreams. Our sponsorship of the Harriet Nixon Scholarship marks an exciting new chapter in our partnership with Burgmann College, uniting us in a shared mission to empower students and build a brighter future.'

Principal Alex McKenzie echoed Karen's enthusiasm. 'The gather by Cater Care team has been fantastic to work with, and their commitment to the College community is evident. Food is such a cornerstone of life at Burgmann, and I am personally moved by their support of The Harriet Nixon Scholarship. As someone who only came to Burgmann because of Harriet, it is incredibly meaningful to see her legacy honoured in a way that will have a lasting impact on so many students.'

'Our partnership with Burgmann College goes beyond meals—it’s about creating an environment where every student can thrive,' said Karen. 'Through this collaboration, we aim to ease financial hardships, support academic excellence, and foster a sense of belonging within the college community. We look forward to working closely with the students and staff at Burgmann College, bringing our passion and food to the table. Together, let’s empower the next generation of leaders and change-makers.'

The family of Harriet Nixon—Ralph, Fiona and Liss Nixon—were incredibly touched by gather's gift, and expressed sincere gratitude for their generosity.

The establishment of The Harriet Nixon Scholarship, supported by the generous donations from gather by Cater Care and our wonderful Burgmann community, represents a significant milestone for Burgmann College in our mission to remove barriers to access for future generations of remote, regional and rural Burgmann residents. With strong foundations in place, Burgmann College is eager to see the positive impact this scholarship will have in the years to come.
