Burgmann College is enormously proud to share that alumna Charlotte Young (2021–2023) was named the Overall Winner and Rising Star Under 25 at the 2024 Asian-Australian Leadership Awards.
‘For me, my work is focused on the community, rather than the self. I just want to do something good with the privilege I've been given.’
- Charlotte Young
Charlotte said that receiving the Asian-Australian Leadership Award was 'such an honour.'
'This award is about so much more than my own achievements. It represents a recognition of the next generation of Asian-Australian leaders and inspires us to continue pushing boundaries and striving for meaningful impact—together,' said Charlotte in her acceptance speech. 'My journey shows what’s possible when inclusivity and accessibility are embraced, and it drives my determination to help create an Australia where all people—including the 4.5 million Australians with disabilities and the 1 in 5 Australians with Asian heritage—are supported and uplifted.'
Charlotte shared the stage with Labor Senator the Hon Penny Wong, who received the Lifetime Achievement Award.
Born with a hearing impairment, Charlotte founded the ANU Auslan Club, which was awarded the ACT government's 2023 Young Canberra Citizen of the Year – Group Award, and she served as a Co-Chair of Burgmann College’s 2023 Cultural Change Working Group.
She was nominated for Victoria’s 2024 Young Australian of the Year Award, and she is also the recipient of the 2024 Burgmann College Principal’s Award for Overall Excellence.
