Join the 1980s Giving Circle

We're excited to announce a new 1980s Giving Circle, created to establish a new full-fee Scholarship at Burgmann.

Led by 1980s alumni Chris van Aanholt (1983–1985) and Andrew Post (1984-1986) the initiative invites their cohort — who accessed education and the Burgmann residential experience at a time when the cost of university was far less prohibitive — to give collectively, by signing up as recurring donors.

Chris and Andrew are inviting their fellow 1980s alumni to contribute alongside them, with the shared goal of supporting a student who would otherwise be unable to afford to live at Burgmann College.

When we went to university there were no tuition fees and therefore no HECS debt. In my case, my TEAS weekly income covered almost all the Burgmann costs, so I had a completely free education. It’s obviously so much harder now and we thought this scholarship might be a start to at least help one person with obtaining the Burgmann College experience.

Valued at $30,000 in 2027, the new three-year, full-fee Scholarship will be means-tested on family income, with preference given to a candidate from a regional area with a state school background.

We’re hoping that others will join us and make a commitment of $1,000 per annum for 3 years to cover the scholarship. In time, if we gather more than 30 supporters, hopefully we can offer a second scholarship.

All contributions are warmly welcomed. The online donation form allows scholarship supporters to set up automated recurring gifts on a monthly, quarterly, biannual or annually recurring basis – or to make a one-off Gift.

Please consider joining the 1980s Giving Circle to help keep Burgmann accessible for all.

It was particularly special to welcome back those who had not returned in many years, and to witness the warmth of reunions between people who had not crossed paths since their Burgmann days.
