2026 Reconciliation Lecture presented by Shannan Dodson
This May marked 29 years since the Bringing Them Home Report, which endeavored to bring justice to Stolen Generation survivors. Alongside this anniversary, Burgmann College was honoured to host Shannan Dodson (Yawuru), Chief Executive Officer of The Healing Foundation, to present our 2026 Annual Reconciliation Lecture. Guided by an Acknowledgement of Country from our inaugural Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Advocate, Noah Smith, the evening was both a reckoning with the past and a call to action.
Fifty years of Burgmann history filled two long tables at Melbourne's Lyceum Club recently, as Burgmann alumni, friends and families gathered for an evening headlined by one very special guest: alum Kate Roffey AM.
On June 5, Burgmann alumni and friends gathered for a joyous reunion at the Rebecca Hossack Art Gallery in picturesque Fitzroy Square, London. Hosted by alumna Rebecca Hossack (1976–1977) and Director of Advancement Amelia Zaraftis, the evening was a celebration of community, culture, and the enduring bonds formed by Burgmann residents across decades and the globe.
Each year, along the Homer corridor with a view of the Front Lawn, a student is living in Room 232. They may not know much about the name above their door. But alum Peter Graves (1972-1974) knows this room well: its thin walls, the sound of his neighbour Fran's laugh carrying through from Room 234, the particular quiet of late evenings spent writing essays, while the rest of the college hummed with life around him. Peter arrived here in 1972 with not much more than blankets and sheets. A few short years later, in 1978, he made a significant donation and became a Founder Fellow of Burgmann College.
