
Class Notes 1991–1995
Jennifer Couzens (1991–1993)
I went from ANU back to Victoria to the University of Melbourne to teach. My first job was at Geelong Grammar's Timbertop campus for three years (hiking, skiing, and teaching). I then moved to Ballarat and taught at Ballarat Clarendon College until 2021. Currently, I am teaching at Ballarat Grammar (and wish I had listened more in my Linguistics lectures at ANU!).

Janelle Lindsay OAM (1995–1998)
Janelle Lindsay OAM represented Australia at the Athens 2004 Paralympic Games as cycling tandem pilot for visually impaired rider Lindy Hou OAM. The pair won gold in the Women’s Sprint Tandem B1-3 event, having broken the world record in qualifying, and a bronze medal in the 1km Time Trial Tandem B1-3 event.
Henry Richards (1994)
Henry has worked in the film industry for the past 25 years, with a variety of roles behind the scenes in rigging, gripping and lighting. Most recently, he competed shooting of the fourth movie in Marvel Studios’ Thor saga, Thor: Love and Thunder.
David Smith (1991–1992)
Since 2018 David is the Director General of the Ruđer Bošković Institute in Zagreb, Croatia; a Public Scientific Research Organization with 1000 employees and 11 Divisions, covering research in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Medicine, Marine and Environmental Science and ICT.
David completed his undergraduate studies in Economics and Science at ANU in 1994, and was awarded first class honours in Chemistry in 1995. He went on to complete a PhD at the ANU Research School of Chemistry winning the Deans Prize for the best thesis in chemistry in 2000. In the years that followed, David was a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry, Ruđer Bošković Institute, Zagreb, Croatia and in the Department of Chemistry, Ludwig-Maximilians-University, Munich, Germany.
From 2004, David held a number of academic leadership positions at the Ruđer Bošković Institute, including: Research Associate in the Division of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry; Senior Research Associate in the Division of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry; Leader of the Group for Quantum Organic Chemistry at the Division of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry; Assistant Director of the Ruđer Bošković Institute, responsible for International Collaboration and Projects; Senior Scientist in the Division of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry; and, Divisional Head and Senior Scientist in the Division of Physical Chemistry. David was also Special Advisor to the Croatian Minister for Science, Education and Sports, in the area of Research and Development in 2016.

Philippa Venning (1993–1996)

Philippa Venning (1993–1996) was a C.A.S. Hawker Scholar from 1993–1996 and graduated with First Class Honours in Law and Arts from ANU. Her career has spanned corporate law with Allens in Sydney and Singapore, and international development with DFAT, AusAID, NGOs, United Nations Development Program and World Bank. She served in Indonesia and Solomon Islands and as Australia's Deputy Head of Mission in Timor-Leste.
Today, she serves as Vice President of Program Quality and Strategy at Abt Global Australia and as a Director on the Board of ChildFund Australia, continuing her commitment to development, governance and children's rights across the Asia Pacific region. She has a Masters in Law from Melbourne University and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
