Burgmann Celebrates Its Newest Hawker Scholar
On 12 August, first-year resident Khuslen Batmandakh was presented with the 145th C.A.S. Hawker Scholarship by Senator Andrew McLachlan at Parliament House in Canberra, celebrated by her parents and sister, alongside Burgmann's Principal Dr Brenda Holt, Director of Advancement Amelia Zaraftis, and residents and fellow Hawker Scholars Tom and Nick Henchliffe.
Of proud Mongolian heritage, Khuslen graduated from Merewether High School in Broadmeadow. She was named the 2025 Newcastle Young Citizen of the Year and is the State Champion of the Leo of the Year competition, among a long list of honours already to her name.
Since the scholarship's first award 36 years ago, more than $7 million has been invested by the Trustees in the education of young Australians who embody the values of C.A.S. Hawker.
Our college is honoured to have a long history of C.A.S. Hawker scholars in residence at Burgmann, and we are delighted to welcome Khuslen and her family to the Burgmann community.
