When alumni become staff

Two alumni recently returned to Burgmann to join our College staff team: Mr Charlie Rozario (2016-2018) as College Dean, and Ms Hope Dyson (2013-2015) in the newly create role of Advancement Support Officer. Both bring much Burgmann wisdom to their roles, despite being much younger than the College!

Charlie Rozario, College Dean

After acting in the role from June 2020, Charlie was appointed College Dean last November.

Charlie was a Residential Advisor and Burgmann Alumni & Friends Mentoring (BAM) Program Coordinator in 2018, as well as a member of the Chartwells Burgmann kitchen staff (2017–19) and Burgmann Housekeeping (2019), and a coordinator of the ANU Summer Research Scholar Program at Burgmann over the summer of 2019–2020. He graduated Bachelor of International Security Studies from ANU in July 2019.

A dedicated team member with a passion for promoting inclusive, caring and friendly environments, Charlie is one of our residential staff, with the important role of fostering community within the Village and Undergraduate wings, supervising Residential Leaders, and supporting the Principal and Deputy Principal in providing pastoral care and academic support to residents.

'It’s humbling to be the College Dean of the place I’ve called home since 2016', says Charlie.

'I’m lucky to have a unique insight into Burgmann as a resident and through the many other roles I’ve had here.

'I enjoy helping others to immerse themselves in everything Burgmann has to offer, especially during this year’s wonderful 50th Celebrations! To me there is nothing more special than seeing the hotly contested brick race on Burg Day, hearing the Big Night Out band busily rehearsing their set into the late hours of the night, or standing on the sidelines of South Oval during a Canberra winter.

'The Burgmann community has regularly gone above and beyond for me, and it is my absolute pleasure to back to the College whenever possible as College Dean.'

Hope Dyson, Advancement Support Officer

Hope was appointed Advancement Support Officer in December 2020, as part of the new College team looking after our Alumni & Friends community, including the very important planning and execution of our 50th Anniversary events this year.

As a Burgmann alumna herself, Hope has a deep understanding of the rich academic, social, sporting and artistic life typifying the Burgmann experience and what it means to be a Burgie.

She brings to the role professional expertise from her time as marketing and media engagement co-ordinator with Mt Buller and Mt Stirling Ski Resort Management, and recently completed her Master of Marketing Management (International Business) at ANU (2020).

'I’ve thoroughly enjoyed returning to College after five years to join the Burgmann community as a staff member', Hope says.

'It’s been great being able to reconnect with alumni and reminisce on our respective times at Burgmann. I’m looking forward to meeting more alumni at the Back-to-Burg Weekend in August.'

Hope is a key member of our team helping to make Back-to-Burg Weekend extra special in our 50th year.
