Burgmann College is proud to announce the appointment of Amelia Zaraftis as the Deputy Principal from 1 July 2016. Amelia has been Acting Deputy Principal since February.
As Deputy Principal, Amelia provides support to the Principal in the social and pastoral care of residents, as well as overseeing the academic network program. Amelia works with resident leaders and management staff to foster a harmonious and enriching community.
Amelia holds a Bachelor of Education (UC) and a Bachelor of Arts (Visual) with Honours (ANU). She has substantial experience in education roles in the tertiary sector and as a museum and gallery educator. She develops educational programs that promote diversity and inclusion and scaffold students towards being confident, self-determined learners. In her recent role as Student Community Development Officer at ANU Amelia worked with the unique virtual hall program, Griffin Hall, an on-campus community that supports the transition, retention and success of students who live off campus.
Amelia is valued as a creative thinker, researcher, educator, equity practitioner and problem solver, with particular skills in strategic planning and the development and delivery of tailored learning experiences for diverse audiences. She is passionate about empowering individuals through education, healthy communities, individual wellbeing and inclusive practices.
Amelia and her family will live onsite and complement the strong after-hours residential staff team.
