Choosing the right residential college might just be the most important decision you make about University — and Burgmann College at ANU has been setting the benchmark in residential colleges since 1971, having nurtured residents' who have gone on to become Prime Ministers, High Court Justices, Olympians and Rhodes Scholars.
As an independent not-for-profit residential college, our entire focus is your success: that means a community that shows up for each other. It means afternoons and late nights in study groups where academic rigour is celebrated, not hidden. It means unforgettable social events that teach young people how to connect, collaborate, and belong. And it means that when things get hard — and university life inevitably does — you won't face it alone. Our trained Resident Advisors live alongside students, offering day-to-day guidance and genuine connection, while dedicated mental health programs ensure that professional support is never far away.
We believe the leaders of tomorrow are shaped by the communities they belong to today. We've thought carefully about every dimension of student life, because we know that success at university isn't just about what happens in the lecture theatre. It's about confidence. Resilience. Identity. Knowing how to lead, how to listen, and how to ask for help. Burgmann is designed — deliberately and thoughtfully — to nurture that potential.
With residents from across Australia and the world, the friendships formed here last a lifetime. Burgmann isn't just a college. It's a family. And we believe every student deserves a place in it, which is why we offer scholarships and bursaries to make sure cost is never a barrier.
If you've been curious about Burgmann, come and see it for yourself at our 2026 Open Day — tour the facilities, meet the people who live and breathe this place, talk to the Principal and support staff, and have all your questions answered.
We can't wait to welcome you!
